Facility
The Ashland Farms equestrian facility is centrally located within walking of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida.
Under trainers Ken and Emily Smith, Ashland Farms has developed into one of North America’s top sales farms, while coaching their clients to a number of national titles.
During the winter months from January to April, Ashland Farms transitions the majority of its horses to on-site stabling at the show grounds.
Boarders at Ashland Farms benefit from a number of amenities including: full service experienced staff, a dedicated stable manager, coaching and training by Ken and Emily Smith, full hunter and jumper courses all within a breathtaking setting in the heart of Wellington. Ken & Emily Smith
Ashland Farms was founded in the early nineties by Ken and Emily Smith who operate their facility out of the Equestrian community of Wellington, Florida., for 11 years.
Both trainers used to work for Howard Lewis in Gates Mills at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club before launching Ashland Farms in 1993.
The couple has been based out of their current facility on Palm Beach Point Boulevard for the past two years and are a fixture within the North American Show circuit.

Name: Caitlyn Shiels
Position: Rider/ Trainer
Caitlyn Shiels joined the team at Ashland Farms in Wellington, Fl as a trainer and rider in April of 2010. Caitlyn Shiels was born and raised in Sheffield, Mass. She graduated in 2001 from Berkshire High School and proceeded to the go on and graduate from Lynn University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management.
Caitlyn has been a very active participant of the Equestrian world. She began her career with Heritage Farm and worked along side Andre Dignelli as a Junior. In 2001, she placed in the top 10 at all the major equitation medal finals. In 2004, she pursued her career in the Jumper ring and claimed many major championships in the high AO Jumper divisions. Some of her highlights are many ribbons at the Winter Equestrian Festival in the high AO jumpers, followed by Championship at Devon Horse Show in the AO Jumpers, and was double gold medalist at the North American Young Riders in Chicago, IL.
Caitlyn became a professional in 2005, and relocated to work along side top show jumper riders Christine and Jonathan McCrea at Windsor Show Stables. Over the last few years she has been working with her own young Jumpers and a small group of clients focusing on Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation.
Currently, Caitlyn owns two young jumper prospects, including 7 year old Capitol Hill was purchased as a 4 year old and has been an investment project and she hopes to bring him along into the Grand Prix ranks, as well as 5 year old S&L Downtown in which she will show at the 2011 Winter Equestrian Festival in the 6 year old division with the intentions of selling him and starting again with another new jumper project. Since beginning to work with Ashland, Caitlyn has been working with the Junior Riders in the Jumpers, Hunters and Equitation.
